I Should’na Left You…

…without a dope beat to step to, or at least some juicy pop culture tid bits. Here ya go:

  • I saw the video for Beyonce’s new song, Deja Vu, last week. First off, I really like the song. The vocals in the chorus have an 80s pop vibe but the song is driven by thumpin’ beats and funky horn action. That seems to have pervaded pop of late, à la Christina Aguilera‘s single, Ain’t No Other Man. Aside from being a phenomenal talent, Beyonce is incredibly beautiful! I also love that Deja Vu includes a repeat of Beyonce and Jay-Z’s Bonnie & Clyde exchange, “You ready? Let’s go get ’em!”
  • Check out the winners of Slate’s Unidentifiable Wedding Gifts contest. Very odd!
  • According to the Department of Homeland Security’s inexplicably flawed National Asset Database, Indiana has 50% more terrorist targets than New York and twice as many as California! What a mess.
  • Check out this campy but clever wrist water bottle. It’s a neat idea, as long as I don’t have to wear spandex like the lady in the picture.
  • The latest advancements in assistive technologies recently allowed a paralyzed man to use his mind to control a computer cursor. Amazing!
  • Mr. T has decided he pities the fool who wears stacks of gold chains.
  • Sometimes when I drop a letter in the mail box, I wonder at the miracle that most of our mail arrives at its intended destination. This serves only to fuel my awe.
  • Last Friday’s Pet of the Day was a snuffly bun called Sawyer. Cutie.
  • Wondering where the exact opposite of your favorite locale or destination lies? Find the antipode here!
  • The Observer’s recent interview with JT is an interesting read. Turns out he’s not just a dumb pop star. He has worthy goals for his music, which seem to be inspired by true legends and an earnest understanding of his craft. Seems like an informed fella. And he’s like, hot, and stuff.
  • Before it hits theaters, Oliver Stone is providing a screening of his 911 film for police and fire fighters who worked at ground zero. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I can’t imagine what it will be like for them to watch the hell they experienced unfold on screen.
  • I am FAR from a supporter of our war in Iraq, but I certainly think it’s important to support our troops. This soldier’s clever way to keep home nearby while fighting abroad is very poignant and moving.
  • Lovable, nerdy front man Rivers Cuomo said Weezer is no more. 😦 They certainly left an indelible mark. The Blue Album is still one of my all-time favorites.
  • Turns out working long hours is harder on women than men. This on top of the responsibility of carrying and bearing offspring. 😛
  • I had never heard of couchsurfing.com, but I think the idea of connecting travelers to provide inexpensive, safe lodging is a really neat idea. Hotel expenses make travel nearly impossible for many to afford. Looks like the site was down but will be relaunched soon.
  • Yum.
  • This baby speaks for many of us.
  • Look at the funky critter a Maine lobsterman found.
  • I love Jim Carrey but this picture provides WAY too much detail.
