Kumquat Strikes Again

Kumquat-ly

Lean’s neighbor Kumquat is very sweet and earnest. She’s recovering from a cocaine addiction and trying to get her life in order. Her boyfriend recently got out of jail and in a few weeks, she’ll get her kids back, all of whom we’re taken away during the worst of her drug problems. Because Lean has the biggest heart of all time, she lets Kumquat use her car a lot. In our last episode, Kumquat was acting a bit sketchy and didn’t bring Lean’s car back in a timely matter. Lean was feeling a bit taken advantage of, but Kumquat didn’t get her social cues. She was always dropping by and Lean was beginning to feel like she couldn’t get a moment’s peace. Things settled down for a few weeks, but there’s trouble again.

Here’s the scoop: Wednesday night, Kumquat borrowed Lean’s car at 8 p.m. with a promise to be back around 10 p.m. By 10:30 p.m., Kumquat hadn’t returned, so Lean called her. She said she’d be there in 15 minutes. Lean waited until 11 p.m., then 11:30 p.m., and then 12 a.m. She tried to call Kumquat several times, gave up, and went to bed. Lean happened to wake up around 3 a.m. and looked outside. Her car wasn’t there. When she got up for work at 7 a.m., her car still wasn’t there. She got ready and when she looked out the window around 8 a.m., there sat her car. She left her apartment to knock on Kumquat’s door and get the scoop and found her car key and $10. When she got in her car, it had no gas. Kumquat later left a message saying she fell asleep at her boyfriend’s and her mobile wasn’t working.

So there you have it. What should Lean do? Should she cut Kumquat off completely or try to find a tactful way to ask her to be more respectful? Lean needs your help – send your comments today!
