Cinco de Mayo!

Love this Liz Phair oldie, Cinco de Mayo from Whip-Smart:

You can’t hear it, but I’m making a celebratory yawp in honor of Cinco de Mayo. Maybe sometime I’ll record it because I know you’d enjoy it. Sounded out, it goes something like this:

Arrrr (rolled Rs) ooo haaaaah!

If you live in Indianapolis, you should definitely get a mango margarita at Cancun, because they are sooooooooo good. Be careful though – they go down easily so you might end up making out with a waiter.

How was your weekend? Mine had an unexpected-but-awesome twist. Late last Friday afternoon, I managed to score tickets to hear Barack Obama speak on Saturday. Lean, Mox, and I woke up early to make sure we didn’t miss a thing. We stood in line for a little over an hour and then were seated in an auditorium at Lawrence North high school. It was a very intimate setting – we were in the 5th row!

While we waited for Barack to speak, we made friends with the people around us and concocted emergency escape plans since there wasn’t an easy way for anyone in our section to get to a restroom. Thank God I have a hearty bladder!

I don’t want to get all Wonkette on you but do want to share what an AMAZING experience it was hearing Barack speak. I’m such a dork but I ended up crying. To be surrounded by such a diverse crowd all united in support of common goals was so, so moving. Barack’s speech was filled with hope but tempered with the truth. He is an incredible orator. For the first time in a long time, I feel positive about where our country could be headed. If you’re interested, here’s a video of his speech and here’s a transcript.

Oh, that’s super cool about Obama. We had tix to see him the first time he was in Indy but didn’t make it…toddler issues. My husband is dying to see him tonight but of course his boss is in town and he can’t skip out on dinner. I’ll have to watch the video.
